Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Boundary Survey

Project Description

ACT completed a boundary land survey for the entire 42,000 acres of JB MDL (comprised of the three contiguous Base areas). The project included cadastral along with geodetic land surveying, field data collection, data reduction/processing, final plan preparation, and metes and bounds descriptions. Easements on and in proximity to the military installation were located and platted on the final map.

The project, one of the largest land boundary survey completed in New Jersey, included record research at JB MDL Real Property Unit archives, NJDOT, County Clerks & Engineer offices, NJ Board of Proprietors records at the State of NJ Library, Secretary of State and National Archives, NY division to obtain all records to establish title to the hundreds of parcels, township boundaries and the county line acquired/transferred through Acts of the legislature, boundary commissions and the condemnation process that progressed over 40yrs.  A Geodetic Control Network was established utilizing GPS and development of a Low Distortion Map Projection (LDP) designed specifically for this project.  This projection was developed to provide increased accuracy over using either the NJ State Plane or UTM coordinate systems while maintaining data interoperability with WGS 84, NAD 83, NJ State Plane, UTM and any other published geodetic reference frame/map projection. Multiple Land Survey maps were prepared in CAD along with survey reports identifying all issues. Deliverables were submitted in AutoCAD, Micro-station, ESRI ARC/GIS, MS-Word and Adobe format.
