Ocean Reef Condominiums Bulkhead Construction
Project Description
ACT Engineers was retained by the Ocean Reef Condominium Association, a 188 unit residential development, located on the Great Egg Harbor Bay in Cape May County, New Jersey. As a result of Superstorm Sandy and other storm events, the development’s approximate 1,500 linear feet of shoreline experienced significant erosion and degradation of protection structures. Although some portions of the waterfront contained an historically present bulkhead, segments of the waterfront area were unprotected without any shore protection structures. Permit applications were prepared and submitted to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) and New Jersey Bureau of Tidelands Management, for reconstruction of the existing bulkhead and new construction of bulkheads, revetments and retaining walls. Pertinent issues included the presence of the presence of mapped coastal wetlands, Tidelands licensing and incorporating recreational and boating access.
